In January 2025, the Los Angeles Fires impacted entire communities, leaving families displaced and neighborhoods forever altered. Many homes, once filled with laughter and nightly bedtime stories, were lost in the devastation. Along with schools, libraries, and youth centers, children lost the comforting spaces where stories once offered them peace, joy, adventure, and a sense of belonging.

MAGIC CABIN CARES was created to share the magic of books despite the devastation. Our mission is to collect, organize, and distribute new or gently used children’s books to families in need. While our initial efforts are focused on those impacted by the fires, our long-term goal is to support children and families facing crises, whether through natural disasters, displacement, or other hardships.

Books offer an opportunity to escape, heal, and continue learning, even in challenging times. Through partnerships with shelters, schools, and community organizations, we ensure that every book we distribute reaches those who need it most, bringing hope, comfort, and a sense of normalcy during uncertain times.

Six Months of Magic: Update

Over the past six months, we’ve been deeply moved by the outpouring of generosity in response to the 2025 Los Angeles Fires initiative. What began as a small idea quickly grew into a nationwide effort, supported by families, educators, college students, and even being mentioned in Oprah Daily.

University-led book drives, thoughtful involvement from local businesses, and boxes of handpicked books shipped in from across the country have all helped bring this vision to life. With the collection phase now complete, we’re excited to share what’s next.

Two WAYS WE’RE GIVING

We’re curating thousands of donated children’s books into two thoughtful formats to support families affected by the LA fires:

Cabin Comfort Totes
Hand-dyed indigo tote bags filled with small, heartfelt touches:
• 3 picture books
• Fun stickers
• A handwritten Note of Hope from a volunteer

These are gifted directly to families through trusted religious and community centers, offering a personal gesture of care and connection.

Community Book Boxes
Larger boxes of books, sorted by type, are being distributed to local spaces that support children on a daily basis. These boxes are meant to add meaningful reading options wherever families gather.

Deliveries in Motion

Deliveries are beginning across community centers in Altadena, Pasadena, and Pacific Palisades. While not every location was directly impacted by the fires, many of the families they serve continue to navigate loss, displacement, or quiet emotional burdens.

We believe community centers, including trusted faith-based spaces, are often the first to recognize who may benefit from a small act of comfort. We are honored to support their work.

Partnership Spotlight

AIT Worldwide Logistics / AIT Cares

AIT Worldwide Logistics is a global transportation company that moves goods of every kind around the world each day. From trucks on highways to planes in the air to ships at international ports, their vast network of stations, warehouses, and logistics hubs keeps cargo in motion across borders.

Through their nonprofit arm, AIT Cares, that same spirit of movement and connection has been extended to books. Teammates across North America have rallied together to give children the gift of story.

We are grateful to be one of the nonprofit recipients of AIT Cares’ first-ever “BOOK IT!” Summer Book Drive, alongside fellow nonprofit Hands Across the Sea, which supports children in the Caribbean.

With participation from 24 stations across the United States, along with teams in Canada and Mexico, AIT Cares teammates have joined together to collect books for children and families. Their Summer Book Drive runs through the end of August. In Los Angeles, volunteers will lead the next step by sorting donations by age group and preparing them for delivery through Magic Cabin Cares and our community partners.

Launching a first-time drive of this scale is no small effort, and we are deeply grateful to the AIT Cares team for their commitment.

Closing Chapter

As deliveries begin, we will be closing this initiative with quiet care and deep gratitude. While we won’t be sharing personal stories or photos out of respect for the families receiving totes, we will be highlighting the community centers and partners who helped bring this to life.

Your generosity continues to ripple outward, and we are so thankful you’ve been part of this journey.
