BEHIND THE MAGIC

Sara Beers is the creator of Amongst the Trees and MAGIC CABIN BOOKS, an independent publisher rooted in storytelling, nature, and community. She took on self-publishing as both a challenge and a creative outlet, blending her background in production and creative art direction to guide the project from idea, through writing, storyboarding, page design, then into print production and distribution.

Inspired by her time in the San Bernardino Mountains, Sara built the book’s visual world with a palette drawn from the local landscape: lakeside sunset pinks, vivid mountain-sky blues, and the pale yellow of a classic national park sign. She envisioned each page with a warm, child-like art style that would feel both inviting and timeless, she found artist Alessia Tricarico to bring that vision to life: a collaboration that would shape the heart of Amongst the Trees.

Amongst the Trees is the debut title from MAGIC CABIN BOOKS, created to spark curiosity, connect children to the natural world, and offer comfort through thoughtful storytelling.

Alessia Tricarico, Italian artist for Amongst the Trees with Magic Cabin Books

MAGIC CABIN BOOKS’ first artist collaboration for the debut title Amongst the Trees features Alessia Tricarico, a talented artist from Bari, Italy (Puglia). Alessia holds a degree in Set Design for Cinema and TV from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bari, where she graduated with top honors. Known for her expertise in digital illustration, video, and animation, Alessia was able to thoughtfully execute the specific art style envisioned for this project.

Working from the other side of the world, Alessia’s passion for her craft and ability to adapt to intricate direction made her an invaluable collaborator. Navigating time zone and language differences, she remained focused and communicative throughout the process. Her skill in interpreting specific visual references and designs, especially those based on the local flora and fauna, was essential to translating the creative vision into a cohesive and grounded visual world.

Alessia’s dedication brought the visual elements of Amongst the Trees to life, enhancing the connection between the story and the natural beauty it celebrates.
